We have blogged in the past about articles and news stories discussing weight loss surgery for teens. This seems to a popular topic within the world of bariatric weight-loss surgery. In fact, the National Institutes of Health recently announced their intentions to study bariatric surgery in adolescents.

Yesterday there was a new article posted online at HamptonRoads.org, a news website for the Hampton Roads, Virginia area. This article is about an 18-year-old Chesapeake teen who underwent bariatric surgery (gastric bypass) and lost 170 pounds.

We have blogged in the past about insurance covering bariatric surgery. Well, in Canada, it seems some prominent hospitals are willing to pay for certain instances of bariatric weight-loss surgery — 100 of them — and they are calling on the government to pay for more.

On average, the patients in the pilot project lost 55 pounds over an eight-month period and some diabetic patients were able to come off their medication.
